One of my favorite pieces to come back with us from London, this banded agate and pearl star has a desert-like quality to it. The striking agate cabochons feature a caramel ground with a bisecting vanilla stripe, expertly set to create a radial circle around the central star pattern. Each arm of the ten pointed star has been set with three delicate pearls, the original bale has additionally been finished with three pearls and an agate as well. In superb overall condition, this rare 1870’s jewel is set with both pendant and brooch fittings, the broach backing unscrews to effortlessly transition to pendant wear, and similarly the bale can be removed to wear only as a brooch, or tucked down invisibly if the the wearer so desires. This beautiful example will be a treasured piece in any collection.
