This gorgeous, very early Victorian cameo ring is likely from the 1840’s, just transitioning out of the Georgian Period. When we received this gorgeous pearl-haloed cameo it was a stickpin, but it has been lovingly converted. I love the beautiful pastoral scene of a figure in the foreground, a valley, and a farmhouse depicted in the background. It really captures that desire to return to the pastoral, which really cropped up in 19th century art as the industrial revolution began to take hold. During this time there was definitely nostalgia for an 18th century life, much in the same way that today we see a resurgence of 1990’s fashion as a look back to thirty years ago. This is such a timely and amazing piece and I love that the pearl halo is graduated, really making this particular example stand out.
