1840’s Renaissance Revival Portrait Brooch in 14ct

Description:

This is an 1840’s hand painted marriage portrait of enamel on a jet disk. You see a young bride depicted, but she’s actually presented in the style of a Renaissance annunciation painting. In classic Renaissance style, she’s shown on the exterior of the building holding flowers. We can see in her bouquet that she has roses, forget-me-nots, and other very romantic flowers. I believe that the visual tradition of this piece came from a Fra Angelico annunciation with the Virgin Mary being presented with a lily, and I believe that theme is repeated here. So wonderfully rendered, I think this piece is outstanding and museum quality.
