Victorian Portrait Locket of an 18th C Woman with Rose Diamonds

Sale price Price $2,650.00 Regular price

The memorable of portrait lockets, this magnificent  Victorian example features a young woman dressed in the flowing clothes of 18th century pastoral portraiture. Peculiar to find as her ensemble predates the locket by more than a hundred years, she reminds us of the Victorian nostalgia for French court life which dominated culture in the previous century. More interesting still, her American origin recalls the reach for a history that did not belong to her maker or wearer; I am most excited by her garland of roses, peonies, and forget-me-nots, strung across her crown. It is Inset with rose cut diamonds, further underscoring the luxury of this item. Just a superb find.
