Late Georgian Diamond and Enamel Mourning Ring 1834

The Curio

This glorious late Georgian ring bears a central mine-cut diamond, with black enamel details over a body of 18k yellow gold. The interior of the shank has the following, inscribed: “… Obt. 23 March 1830 CC ...8”. The exterior of the shank has black enamel lettering, while the opposite face of the ring head has a glass enclosure with a small locket of hair housed inside.

Condition: Generally excellent. There is a delicately done sizing at the back of the ring, which is visible in the photos. Slight wear to the inscription, and exterior enamel details. Some solder marks are visible where the shoulder of the band meets the ring head, likely the result of the ring being previously sized.
