A once in a lifetime American aesthetic movement brooch-splosion. While American aestheticism was known for its unflinching renderings of foliate elements, we rarely see examples that entwine fashion textile details such as silk ribbons and embroidered motifs with the naturalistic symbols that the movement was known for. Centered around a sixteen carat oval amethyst with three pear teardrops extending down from articulated stations, the design becomes more complex the longer it is regarded. The elaborate crown setting of the amethyst and the organic woodgrain finish of the architectural brooch round all lead back to the organic stylization of this jewel while maintaining the clean lines that Victorian jewelry is renowned for. I will be remiss to see this museum-quality treasure leave the Curio, for I am certain I shall never again see so immaculate an Aesthetic Movement swagged brooch.
