This exquisite brooch features a green banded agate centerpiece, with a finely-carved woman’s portrait in high positive relief. This rare green agate stone is held within a vivid 14ct yellow gold bezel frame, with intricate floral motifs and drill-set pearls. The piece is dated to c.1890, Belle-Epoque period, with a classic pin closure at the back, and a bale for use as a pendant.

Marks: There are some mostly-illegible hallmarks on the bale, possibly making out the number 585 for gold fineness.

Condition: Generally excellent condition, having held up beautifully over the years. The green agate has a bright, saturated hue, with stark contrast against the white cameo figure. The gold has a vivid sunny color, with intricate relief details, and sturdily-set pearls. The pin closure and the bale are sturdy. The hallmarks on the bale are mostly illegible.
